Does Entrepreneurial Competencies Enhanced due to Technical and Vocational Education Training Among Graduates?-An Assessment

AUTHOR

Dr. R. Dayanandan 1

ABSTRACT

Developing an entrepreneurial mindset among graduates is an essential tool for fighting against poverty and reducing unemployment in any developing country. To overcome such problems, the government of Ethiopia established Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Colleges to provide formal education to acquire a range of vocational and life skills to actively participate in all spheres. However, majority of the young TVET graduates in the study area are looking for jobs in government or non-government sectors rather than self-employed. Hence the aim of this research is to assess the entrepreneurial competencies and influencing factors among TVET College graduates to forward suitable policy implications. To address the objectives, a cross-sectional survey design was followed with a sample size of 97 respondents identified by stratified random sampling. Primary data was collected through structured questionnaires and secondary data was used for supplementary arguments. Collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences and statistics such as mean, frequencies and percentages. In addition, to identify the factors influencing entrepreneurship, binary logistic regression analysis was carried out. The findings reveal that 67.4% of TVET graduates are entrepreneurially competent to establish their own ventures. Binary regression results indicate that out of 15 independent variables, 3 variables such as cost of fixed assets during start up time, imitative driven to work hard and cultural influence were found to be significant. Though the graduates have enhanced their entrepreneurial capability due to the TVET college, few factors hinder them from starting their own ventures. Hence, it is recommended that the government and other stakeholders need to work and support on the influencing factors to encourage entrepreneurship.

Empowering Employment in India through Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP)

AUTHORS

Santosh Kumar1, Dr. Jai Singh Parmar2

ABSTRACT

In August 2008, the Indian government unveiled the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), a new credit-linked subsidy scheme. It was established by combining the two programs that were in place until March 31, 2008, namely the Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojana (PMRY) and the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) aim to create jobs by establishing microenterprises in both the rural and urban non-farm sectors. PMEGP has been in operation since 2008-09, and it continues for the cycle of the 15th Finance Commission, or from 2021-22 to 2025-26 for five years. PMEGP, a central sector programme, is managed by the Union Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Businesses.
The scheme's major purpose was to create jobs in rural and urban sections of the country by establishing new self-employment enterprises, projects, and microbusinesses. It also attempted to bring together widely scattered traditional craftspeople looking for work in rural and urban locations and to give them as many self-employment options locally as possible. Also, to prevent rural youth migration to metropolitan areas, a major part of traditional and aspiring craftspeople, as well as unemployed youth of rural and urban areas, should be given ongoing and long-term work.
Keeping these aspects in mind, the current work makes an attempt to comprehend the objectives of the scheme and the present trend of the scheme in terms of applicants and sanctions of the fund by the banks. Further, the study highlights the present status of loans disbursed to the beneficiaries under different social categories.
