Institute Innovation Cell (IIC)
Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India has established ‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation among all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are in their formative years.
MIC has envisioned encouraging the creation of Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs) across selected HEIs. A network of IICs is established to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion ecosystem in the campuses.
Major Focus
- To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.
- Start-up supporting mechanism in HEIs.
- Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) framework.
- Establish functional ecosystem for scouting ideas and pre-incubation of ideas.
- Develop better cognitive ability among students.
Functions of IIC
- Conduct various Innovation, IPR, and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by MIC in a time-bound fashion.
- Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
- Organize periodic workshops, seminars, and interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals to create a mentor pool.
- Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
- Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by faculty and students.
- Organize Hackathons, idea competitions, mini-challenges, etc., with industry involvement.
IMIS Incubation Centre
India aspires to become a 5 trillion-dollar economy by 2024. To reach the mark, it needs to evolve systems and mechanisms to convert the present demographic dividend into high-quality technical human resource capable of doing cutting-edge research, innovation, and deep-tech entrepreneurship.
IMIS, Bhubaneswar strives to ensure the exposure of a maximum number of students to innovation and pre-incubation activities from an early stage, supporting the pathway from ideation to innovation to market. It is our constant endeavor to spread awareness among students and faculty about the value of entrepreneurship and its role in career development.

Vision of IMIS IIC is to assist in the development of innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem by enabling resourceful interaction between its major stakeholders spanning students, working professionals, aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, mentors, and corporate through initiatives like interactive sessions, competitions, and conferences.

Mission of IMIS IIC is to promote innovation and entrepreneurial thinking, creativity, and leadership skills which can help in solving problems of individuals and the society at large.
