Commissionerate launches awareness drives

The Police Commissionerate finds it difficult on how to tackle the Babus, who are driving recklessly on the busy strees of the city. On Monday, reckless driving by the driver of a luxury car Honda City brough miseries for the common pedestrians and two wheelers.

Without paying scant regards for all traffic regulations, the driver of the Honda City drove the car at a speed of 80 Km per hour on the busy streets of Raj Mahal Square in the afternoon and met with an accident. The law abiding citizens came before the car for no fault on theirs. The car pushed them from the behind 20 feet distance. As many as 15 people were hurt in the accident. Four out of the 15 were critically injured. All of them were shifted to hospital. One of them, Pankajini Hansda, was battling for life in he SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. She belongs to Rayagada.

Such was the impact of the accident that the car overturned on the roads. However, the driver managed to flee from the spot. Sources maintained that the driver was heavily drunk. The owner of the car has been identified as Susant Kumar Pal. Only few days back another car Indica met with an accident near the Secretariat. One Government employee died on the accident.

Interestingly, On Monday morning, police with the active support of the NGOs and students lauched as awareness drive to streamline the auto-c and town buses. Most of the accidents are taking place in city due to the errant driving of the auto-rickshwalls.

For the last four years, police is trying hard to streamline them by giving identity cards. But the auto-rickshawalls are yet to know the basics of driving. In order to teach them the basics of driving police Monday taught both auto-rickshaw drivers and the town bus driver about the new regulations on how to pick up the passengers on the mid-away.

As per the new regulations, town bus and autos can pick up the passengers from the bus-stops and autoparking place only. Passengers can get down from the vehicles within 100 meters of the parking places. They can not stop the vehicles on the id of the road. However, the autos can pick up the vehicles.
