Role Call for Corporate World

Bhubaneswar : Actress and social Activist Nandita Das on Tuesday called upon corporate houses to focus on social responsibilities while setting up industries for development projects.
"The corporate houses should never forget that they are also part of the society and therefore have responsibilities to carry the society forward," Nandita Das said while addressing a workshop here on Corporate Social responsibility-pertaining sustainable Development.
While taking up business and making profit, they should not forget that people and environment around them should also be developed simultaneously, she added.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, she said at the workshop orgainzed by Institute of Management & Information Science that true development is possible only when efforts are meant for a larger good.
"The development should be sustainable and with a strong sense of social justice. We need to work together for a better world." she said.
Nandita Das also expressed happiness on the major role taken up by some corporate houses in shaping the society.
Vice-chancellor of sambalpur University, P.C. Tripathy said there should be no hurdle in setting up of plants by corporate majors Posco and Vendanta.If the corporate houses ensure the local people that they will take up their causes, which in other words is social responsibility.
He said local people in any part of the state on the country are not opposed to industrialisation. "But corporate houses are not taking the people into confidence," he said.
